What you'll find

Happy Hollow Falls hides along the 4.6-mile Happy Hollow Trail at Ferne Clyffe State Park — the same trail that passes Happy Hollow Natural Bridge, one of the largest natural arches in Illinois. Falls plus arch makes this the best single loop in the park.

Don't confuse it with the park's famous front-country falls — the 100-foot seasonal ribbon in Big Rocky Hollow near the entrance is a different waterfall (and not yet in our database).

Like everything at Ferne Clyffe, it's rain-powered: sandstone box canyons that thunder in spring and stand silent in August.
