About Pillsbury Crossing Falls
Pillsbury Crossing Falls is a 5-foot waterfall in Kansas, on Deep Creek.
It's fullest after rain, and flow can drop off during dry spells — plan around recent weather.
Plungeworthy rates Pillsbury Crossing Falls 4.2/10 — if you're passing. The score weighs its scale, how confidently it's mapped, and its character.
What you'll find
Kansas's signature waterfall experience isn't tall — it's the approach. Pillsbury Crossing Lane fords straight through Deep Creek across a flat limestone slab, the same pioneer crossing wagons used, and the 5-foot falls pours over the ledge just downstream. You drive through the creek. That's not marketing exaggeration; that's the road.
The falls itself is a natural limestone ledge 40 to 60 feet wide inside a 59-acre state wildlife area southeast of Manhattan, named for Josiah Pillsbury, an 1855 Free-State settler.
One honest note: this is a hugely popular informal wading spot, and the managing agency's posted rules prohibit swimming. Both things are true. We report the rule.

Before you go
The pin marks the feature, not a trailhead or a legal route in. Some sit on private land or need a real hike, and conditions change with season and rain. Check local access, don't trespass, and never enter water — hot or cold — where it isn't safe.
