About Valley Falls

Valley Falls is a waterfall in Kansas, on Deleware River.

It's fullest after rain, and flow can drop off during dry spells — plan around recent weather.

Plungeworthy rates Valley Falls 3.5/10 — one for the list. The score weighs its scale, how confidently it's mapped, and its character.

What you'll find

Know what this listing is before you drive: the waterfall this town is named for no longer exists. Grasshopper Falls — later renamed Valley Falls — powered 1850s flour and saw mills on the Delaware River, including one built by Isaac Cody, Buffalo Bill's father. Then the dam that forms Perry Lake went in, and the backwater submerged the falls.

The World Waterfall Database states it plainly: submerged beneath a lake or reservoir. There is no falling water to see today.

The town keeps the history — preserved millstones and the Delaware River Composite Truss Bridge — if you want the story without the waterfall.

Where it is

Before you go

The pin marks the feature, not a trailhead or a legal route in. Some sit on private land or need a real hike, and conditions change with season and rain. Check local access, don't trespass, and never enter water — hot or cold — where it isn't safe.
