About Money Brook Falls
Money Brook Falls is a 35-foot tiered in Massachusetts, on Money Brook. The water falls in 3 distinct tiers.
It's fullest after rain, and flow can drop off during dry spells — plan around recent weather.
Plungeworthy rates Money Brook Falls 6.8/10 — worth a detour. The score weighs its scale, how confidently it's mapped, and its character.
What you'll find
Money Brook Falls is Mount Greylock's hidden giant — about 80 feet of cascade (older listings say 35; independent measurements converge on 80) tucked into one of the wildest ravines in the state, at the head of the Hopper on the mountain's northwest side.
It's the remotest waterfall on this list: a moderate but committed walk up the blue-blazed Money Brook Trail from Hopper Road in Williamstown, with a short spur to the falls. The brook's name comes from a colonial-era counterfeiting legend — coiners supposedly worked in this ravine.
Expect solitude. Greylock's summit crowds never make it here, and the narrow trail with its stream crossings keeps the falls one of the quietest big drops in the Berkshires.
Getting there
- Trailhead
- Money Brook Trail, Hopper Road trailhead, Williamstown
- Parking
- Hopper Road lot, free year-round, overnight parking permitted
- Road
- Hopper Road — paved to gravel
- Heads up
- The falls spur leaves the Money Brook Trail near its top. The alternate Notch Road approach depends on a seasonal road (closed to vehicles roughly late October to mid-May) — use Hopper Road.
When to go
Spring is dramatic but the stream crossing is hardest then; early summer balances flow and safe fords. The 80-foot drop thins substantially in a dry August.

Before you go
The pin marks the feature, not a trailhead or a legal route in. Some sit on private land or need a real hike, and conditions change with season and rain. Check local access, don't trespass, and never enter water — hot or cold — where it isn't safe.
