About Owens Creek Falls

Owens Creek Falls is a 10-foot block in Mississippi, on Owens Creek.

It's fullest after rain, and flow can drop off during dry spells — plan around recent weather.

Plungeworthy rates Owens Creek Falls 5.9/10 — worth a detour. The score weighs its scale, how confidently it's mapped, and its character.

What you'll find

Milepost 52.4 on the Natchez Trace Parkway, at the southern end of the Rocky Springs section — the same stretch as the ghost town site. An easy, well-marked walk from a designated pulloff: stepping-stone creek crossing, then the trail splits toward the falls base and a small cave, or straight on to a picnic area.

Be honest about scale: this was never a big waterfall, and it's smaller now. The feeder spring dried up long ago, part of the rock shelf has collapsed, and what's left is a 4-to-5-foot rain-fed ledge on a good day.

The pulloff doubles as the southern terminus of the Rocky Springs section of the Natchez Trace National Scenic Trail — a 6-mile one-way option north if the falls is dry.

Within a day or two of rain — it's rain-fed since the feeder spring dried up, and can be bone dry in late summer.

Before you go

The pin marks the feature, not a trailhead or a legal route in. Some sit on private land or need a real hike, and conditions change with season and rain. Check local access, don't trespass, and never enter water — hot or cold — where it isn't safe.
