About Pottersville Falls

Pottersville Falls is a waterfall in New Jersey, on Lamington River.

It's fullest after rain, and flow can drop off during dry spells — plan around recent weather.

Plungeworthy rates Pottersville Falls 3/10 — one for the list. The score weighs its scale, how confidently it's mapped, and its character.

What you'll find

Know what this listing is before you drive: Pottersville Falls is real — 40 to 50 feet of the Black River dropping in three tiers through a rocky gorge at the Morris-Hunterdon-Somerset county line, formerly called Lamington Falls — but there is no confirmed legal public access to it.

The falls sits below Black River Road just north of Pottersville village, and the steep land between the road and the water is private, with houses on it. Some databases claim it's inside Hacklebarney State Park; it isn't — that park is several miles away.

We don't publish directions onto private land. If a legal viewing point is ever established, this page gets a rewrite — the falls itself would rank among New Jersey's best.
