About Sliding Rock

Sliding Rock is a slide in North Carolina, on Chattooga River.

It's fullest after rain, and flow can drop off during dry spells — plan around recent weather.

Plungeworthy rates Sliding Rock 3.6/10 — one for the list. The score weighs its scale, how confidently it's mapped, and its character.

What you'll find

A 60-foot natural waterslide that's been polishing its granite since long before the Forest Service put lifeguards on it. Sixty feet of slide, an eight-foot pool, fifty-something-degree water — the Blue Ridge's best scream. (Half the map pins on the internet put this falls in the wrong county. Ours did too, until we fixed it.)

Where it is

Before you go

The pin marks the feature, not a trailhead or a legal route in. Some sit on private land or need a real hike, and conditions change with season and rain. Check local access, don't trespass, and never enter water — hot or cold — where it isn't safe.
