About Salt Creek Falls
Salt Creek Falls is a plunge in Oregon, on Salt Creek.
Fed largely by snowmelt, it runs hardest in late spring and early summer and can thin to a trickle by late season.
Plungeworthy rates Salt Creek Falls 4.1/10 — if you're passing. The score weighs its scale, how confidently it's mapped, and its character.
What you'll find
Oregon's second-tallest single drop: Salt Creek pours 286 feet into a huge forested bowl, and you see it from a paved, wheelchair-accessible platform fifty yards from your car. A stair trail drops toward the base for the full-spray version.
Getting there
- Trailhead
- Salt Creek Falls Observation Site, off Highway 58 near Willamette Pass
- Parking
- Large paved day-use lot; overflow at Salt Creek Sno-Park 0.4 miles away
- Road
- Paved
- Hike
- 0.2 mi round trip (easy)
- Heads up
- The overlook loop is flat and paved. The base stairway is steep and unpaved. Add the Diamond Creek Falls loop (3.7 miles, ~450 ft) for a second waterfall.
When to go
Spring through early summer for peak snowmelt. In winter the main lot isn't plowed — park at the Sno-Park and walk in for the frozen-lace version.
It's a busy roadside stop in summer, but the big overlook absorbs crowds better than any trailside falls.

Where it is
Before you go
The pin marks the feature, not a trailhead or a legal route in. Some sit on private land or need a real hike, and conditions change with season and rain. Check local access, don't trespass, and never enter water — hot or cold — where it isn't safe.
