What you'll find

Hand-dug pools terraced into a travertine bluff 150 feet above the North Umpqua — the most dramatic natural soaking perch in Oregon. Expect one small roofed tub and a handful of open pools running 100–115°F depending on position and season. Fully primitive, and clothing-optional in long-standing practice.

Trailhead: Umpqua Hot Springs Trailhead, off FR 3401 near Toketee
Parking: Small fee-area lot
Road: Paved in season; the road is gated in winter, adding ~3.2 miles round trip on foot
Hike: 0.6 mi round trip, 150 ft of climb (moderate)
Heads up: Footbridge over the river, then a short, steep climb. Travertine is slick — water shoes earn their keep.

When to go

Open year-round, easiest in summer and fall. Winter is the magic season if you'll walk the gated road — steam over a snowy canyon — but expect company regardless: weekends run crowded, and swimwear is the exception rather than the rule.
