What you'll find
Know what this listing is before you drive: Thunderhead Falls — a 30-foot waterfall inside a 600-foot hand-dug 1870s gold-mine tunnel — has been permanently closed to the public for roughly a decade. The colored-light underground tour that Vera Eklund opened in 1943, after spotting water pouring from the mountainside on a train ride, is gone.
The closure is durable, not temporary: review platforms header it CLOSED, roadside-attraction trackers date the shutdown to around 2017, and the old attraction address now functions as a residential street with houses listed on it.
The falls still pours inside the mountain on Rapid Creek water — but it's on private property with no legal access. We keep the page as history, not a destination.

Before you go
The pin marks the feature, not a trailhead or a legal route in. Some sit on private land or need a real hike, and conditions change with season and rain. Check local access, don't trespass, and never enter water — hot or cold — where it isn't safe.
